We are moving. From Monday 17 August, sessions are at Clifton Hill. Bookings continue as normal.

Your first visit

What to know

before you come in.

Practical detail rather than clinical explanation. What to bring, what to wear, how the hour runs, where the room is, and how payment works.

Before you come

A little preparation

goes a long way.

None of this is required. It just tends to make the first hour more useful.

Think about what you want

Most people know why they are coming in. Fewer have thought about what they would like to be different afterwards, and that turns out to be the more useful question.

It might be mobility for a particular sport, relief from a nagging back, or being able to sit through a working day without shifting constantly. Something concrete helps.

Write things down

Some people feel more comfortable making notes beforehand. Questions, concerns, things you might forget once the conversation starts. Bring them.

What to bring

What to wear

Structural work needs the body to be visible and accessible, so most clients work in underwear. Being able to see how you are organised, and to work directly on the tissue, makes a real difference to what can be assessed.

That said, plenty of people would rather not, and that is entirely reasonable. Shorts and a singlet or crop top, or activewear, work well and are a common choice. Choose whatever lets you relax, because being at ease matters more to the session than the last few degrees of visibility.

You are draped with a towel or sheet throughout, and you undress in privacy. If you are unsure, wear something comfortable to the first appointment and it can be talked through then.

On the day

How the hour

runs.

01

We talk first

The session opens with a conversation rather than with hands on. Why you have come in, what has been going on, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different.

This is where your notes and any documentation you have brought get used.

02

Assessment

Standing and moving, so that relationships across the body can be looked at, then a few simple tests to explore whether what was seen appears relevant.

Nothing here is a diagnosis. It is about working out where it is worth looking.

03

Hands-on work

Most of the work happens with you on the table. Some of it may happen standing or seated, and you may be asked to move while work is being done rather than lying passively throughout.

04

Re-checking, and a conversation

We return to what was examined earlier and look again, then talk about what was found, how you responded, and what would be reasonable from here. You will leave knowing what was observed and whether it changed.

You decide what you are comfortable with

Standing assessment involves being observed while standing, and some people would rather not do that. If it does not suit you, say so and the session will proceed without it. It will not affect the quality of the work.

The same applies to clothing, and to any part of the session. If something is uncomfortable or you would rather not do it, say so at the time. You will not be asked to explain why.

Finding the room

Getting to

the clinic.

01

Queens Parade

The clinic entrance is at street level. Route 86 trams stop directly outside, Clifton Hill Station is a short walk, and there is time-limited street parking nearby.

02

Arriving

On Monday and Tuesday there is reception on the ground floor, so doors should be open. Just take a seat and I'll be down to meet you.

On Friday there is no reception, so try to get there as close to your appointment time and I'll be there to meet you at the door.

03

Upstairs

The room is on the first floor, at the rear, reached by a flight of stairs. There is no lift in the building. If stairs are difficult for you, call before booking so the options can be talked through.

Afterwards

What happens

next.

Whether to book again

That is decided at the end of the session from what was actually found, not set in advance. Some people come once. Some work through a short series over several weeks, where each session begins by re-checking the last. Some return occasionally when something changes in their work or training.

If the approach does not appear to be helping, that will be said plainly rather than extended into another appointment.

Changing an appointment

Appointments can be changed or cancelled from the link in your confirmation email. Please give at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations inside 24 hours are charged the full session fee of $160, since the hour cannot be offered to anyone else at that notice. If something comes up, call 0400 001 477 rather than emailing.

Payment

Payment is made at the end of the appointment.
